Decades of cruelty, neglect, and forced displacement by the US government have resulted in the present grave situation for Native Americans. Europeans introduced a culture of brutality and cruelty to the indigenous peoples of the Americas. Native People were denied the freedom to practice their religion, had their homes confiscated, and were subjected to stringent rules and prohibitions. The treatment of Native People has long-term consequences. Native People's forced removal from their native lands to reservations has had a severe financial effect on their communities. When many indigenous peoples were on the verge of extinction, they were forced to flee their homes and traditional food sources.
